TDK Introduces Two New DC Link Capacitor Series Optimized for EV On-Board Chargers

TDK Corporation announces the new B43655 and B43656 series of aluminum electrolytic capacitors, specifically designed for DC link applications in electric vehicle (EV) on-board chargers (OBCs). Both series are optimized for forced cooling conditions, meeting the increasing demand for higher voltage and current in next-generation on-board charging platforms. With their compact design and excellent ripple current handling capability, these capacitors are ideal for applications requiring maximum efficiency and reliability within confined spaces.

The B43655 series features high voltage ratings of 475 V and 500 V, with capacitance values ranging from 110 µF to 880 µF, addressing the requirements of 800 V battery architectures in modern e-mobility applications. Engineered for bottom cooling and high ripple current density, these components offer an operational life exceeding 3,000 hours at +105°C. They deliver a maximum ripple current of 3.29 A (at +105°C) and feature a low ESR down to 100 m, minimizing power losses. The B43656 series, rated at 450 V, achieves a current handling capability of up to 4.42 A at +105°C, meeting the stringent demands of high-power OBC topologies.

 

Both series are AEC-Q200 Rev. E compliant and manufactured with RoHS-compliant materials. The capacitors feature a compact, solder-pin design with diameters ranging from 22 mm to 35 mm and lengths from 25 mm to 60 mm, depending on capacitance and voltage rating. With enhanced electrical performance and reliability, the B43655 and B43656 capacitors provide design engineers with a robust, future-proof solution for EV on-board charging applications.

The new B43655 and B43656 series will also be integrated into TDK's web-based AlCap life expectancy calculation tool.
