Counterpoint Research: Global Smartphone Shipments Increase 2% in 2025, with Apple Leading the Market
2026-01-13
On January 12, the market research firm Counterpoint Research stated that global smartphone shipments in 2025 grew by 2% year-on-year, driven by strong demand in emerging markets and economic growth momentum.
According to analyst Varun Mishra, Apple leads the market with a 20% market share, ranking first among the top five brands. This is attributed to robust demand in emerging and mid-tier markets, as well as the strong sales performance of the iPhone 17 series. Samsung holds the second position with a 19% market share, though its shipment growth has been relatively moderate. Xiaomi ranks third with a 13% market share, primarily supported by steady demand in emerging markets.
Counterpoint Research noted that some shipments were brought forward earlier in the year as manufacturers rushed to meet deadlines before the implementation of tariffs. However, this effect gradually diminished as 2025 progressed, with little impact on shipments in the second half of the year.
Research Director Tarun Pathak of Counterpoint Research indicated that the global smartphone market is expected to slow down in 2026 due to chip shortages and rising component costs. This is because chip manufacturers are prioritizing the development of AI data centers over mobile devices.
